My answer may not have importance in your organizational process, but in some way I feel a small part of it. I´m a European lady, who got to know about your situation in 2005, while a short staying in Nepal. Since then, a strong indignation feeling has been growing inside me. I believe in human rights, in justice and in peaceful processes to transform societies. When I read opinions like the one I read today from RP Subba I even trust in democracy. We all should make use of all the mechanisms that democracy offers us for changing our world. I feel the Bhutanese process as a part of my personal process. I feel myself a “woman from the world”, not from any particular country. We mustn’t renounce to our particularities as a society. We must integrate ourselves in the societies we live in but not being assimilated by them. We must follow the rule “to add and not to subtract”. Let’s learn the options that a democratic society like US can offer us. Let’s learn their channels and be introduced in them. Let’s promote education; the right of free thinking and free expression. Let’s use the right for association. You all, Bhutanese community (in exile, in Nepal and in Bhutan) is the main character of this story. But you may don´t forget that you are not alone. There is a global citizenry which will support your peaceful fight.

Congratulations for this initiative to put in contact Bhutanese in the Diaspora and to create the forum to debate about your future. I will follow your story and in some ways I will participate in it.

Theory without praticality. We heard many tales and promises in the name of political motivations to fulfill the dire interest. Mr. Subba camoulflaging his image from time and again appeared in the screen. A man without stand by himself and support from the countrymen. When there is an influx of refugees, he again wanted to show his presence, that is all. Taking the advantage of the innocency is the central vision of Mr Subba.
How can Subba say that his goal post has not shifted? What has shifted, balls, players or corner flag?
Read or write, that is your way of living, you know it. Do you need to write in the media?
People are very sensitive and they don't need the visionary illusion but a straight forward answers yes or no type.

Note: Gopal Bhai's comment and Naradji's comment were received in my inbox. With due apologies to Gopal and Naradji, I copy pasted those comments here, so that every one here can see and read what each of us are thinking. If you consider it a mistake on my part, it is an inadvertant one. There was no bad intent when I did it. Still, I am sorry.

I am very proud of the comments that are coming, and which are the gems of inspiration to me. I want to thank both of you and other well wishers who have taken time to read the paper and write your sincere comments. Thank you all.

Dear R P Subba ji,

Namaskar! How are you? Hope you are keeping fine as we do here in
Nepal. I was in fact looking for your contact email address since long
to write. This morning when I visited the internet, I saw your article
"Transition,..........." publised by apfanews.com where your email
address was also given. So, I am writing this mail.

I read your document. The theme was really good and interesting. If
things could progress in the line as you said, we could certainly
achieve our goals one day. The central message I noted in your
artilce, which I liked very much, is that "All people will not leave
the camps and all people who left the camps will not leave the
movement." So, let this become the guiding principle for shaping and
heading our movement in the comming days. Idea of Purna Chetri to get
it translated into Nepali was good. It is true that such concept
should florish among the people so that more people, who could read
English, could read and understand about you, and of course decide
about their future corectly.

So, lets remain in touch. I have not yet decided to leave the camp.
At least for some times, I want to continue with the movement from
here itself. The opinion among the regional leadership is also growing
now towards generating more international pressure on Bhutan so that
at least people who are inside the country will not face insurity
about their citizenship and Bhutan Bhutan will ultimately compel to
take back some people from the camps.

My view is that it will be our great achievement even if Bhutan takes
back a small number of people from exile. To make it happen, we should
continue putting pressure through our movement.

With this, looking forward to hearing from you.

with best regards,

Narad adhikari,

Dear RP dai,

Honestly, you have presented something great that I (and perhaps everyone)had been waiting for. Your write up deserves appreciation; as it provides a lot of information and suggestions as well, I believe. There are different unheard and unspoken problems and grievances of the resettled Bhutanese communities. Its been over one year that I have been resetled here, and duties in my job involve a lot of interactions with the Americans, in person and over phone. Every time I speak with them, I have some hesitation. My point is, we have just started the journey and there is a long way to travel.Initially, we have to struggle with hurdles, as you say, but we got to overcome them over time. We must learn to be honest with ourselves.

Yes, indeed, we need to preserve our culture.

I wish I could translate your article in Nepali for the common folks.

Please keep writing for our site.
