Association of Press Freedom Activists (APFA) Bhutan has been carrying out various activities intended to make the Bhutanese refugee informed of what is happening for their future alongside advocating for lasting solution of the Bhutanese refugee problem.
Since our establishment in 2004, our efforts remain to protect the right of the Bhutanese people to 'right to information' and advocating for dignified return of the Bhutanese nationals, establishment of democracy and guarantee of press freedom in Bhutan.
Beginning October 2004, we have been publishing The Bhutan Reporter newspaper. From May 2006, we started our online service www.apfanews.com (also browsable through www.bhutannewsservice.com). From March this year, we started a radio program in Kathmandu.
All through this journey, we have not received any support and as the time passes, our ability to invest to sustain these projects declined. We project to make the site more vibrant, we project to make radio program available on web to listen at any time and increase the frequency of publication of The Bhutan Reporter. Our prime focus would remain at extending the radio program (SARANARTHI SAROKAR) reachable to refugee community in Jhapa and parts of western Bhutan through local FM radio stations in Jhapa and Ilam districts.
All these efforts require money. We worked not only as volunteer to this day but also as sole investors as well.
The relay of program in each FM radio stations costs around NRs 8,000 (US$115) per month. Additionally, uploading the radio program on the site costs around NRs 1,500 (US$22) per month.
Smaller contributions combined together make great difference. Your small help will be the greatest for sustaining these projects. Our nearness to mass media worldwide has taught us the importance of media for advocacy of the cause. Taking this into consideration, we appeal all our friends and well wishers to make their contribution.
Please join hands for the general cause.
