598 graduates appearing Civil Service exams

Thimphu, October 8:  A total of 598 university graduates are appearing the Civil Service Common Examination, which began on October 7 in Thimphu.

The graduates will sit for three written paper along with viva-voce, that starts on October 10.

Of the total, 468 are general graduates and 130 are technical and professional graduates in IT, medical science, bio-science, engineering, law and design.

The general graduates will appear papers in Dzongkha, English and GK, and Bhutan and its social-political institutions and socio economic development since 1961.
 
The technical and professional graduates will appear papers in language and GK, general subject knowledge and a paper on Subject specialization.
 
The examination is being conducted for post-graduate certificate in education (PGCE), post graduate diploma in public administration, financial management, national law (PGDNL), lecturer positions in tertiary institutes and positions in supervisory and support category positions requiring technical and professional degrees.

The results will come out on November 8, officials of the Royal Civil Service Commission said.
 
The number of people to be recruited in the service is not known. So far, only 90 slots available for the PGCE. A total of 777 graduates attended the orientation program in September this year.
 
In 2005, 392 graduates appeared such examination. Of the 329 general graduates 144 were selected and 60 of the 63 technical graduates that sat for the examination were absorbed into the civil service. Bhutan News Service
