Phuentsholing, February 22: With the reported case of Maoist infiltration into Bhutan from Assam, the state government in Assam has beefed up security along its border with Bhutan.

"We are aware of the recent developments regarding movement of Maoist rebels and are taking the reports very seriously. We are stepping up security measures," Indo Asian News Service quotes Asasm Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

Recently, the Royal Bhutan Army patrol team had unveiled two Maoist militant camps and captured at least eight communist rebels with weapons.

Bhutan's Deputy Chief of Police Kipchu Namgyel told media that the security personnel busted two Maoist rebel camps – one each in Sarpant and Samdrup Jongkhar district.

The Assam government in response has deployed paramilitary troopers of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) along Assam's 262 km unfenced border with Bhutan to check cross-border movement of the rebels.

Governments in Assam and Bhutan suspect that the Bhutan rebels have grouped up with Assam based rebels All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA). Bhutan News Service
